About the work

This composition unfolds within a realm where the familiar takes on an uncanny quality, inviting viewers to reconsider perception itself. At its center, watermelons—symbols often tied to life’s sweetness and renewal—are suspended in an almost ritualistic stillness, their forms both grounded and liberated from natural constraints. A solitary whole watermelon hovers above a muted beige plane, while a half sits quietly within the stark geometry of a red wall’s windowed alcove. White clouds drift low, their softness paradoxically weighed down by sharply defined shadows, disrupting the balance between air and earth.

In the foreground, a single slice of watermelon rests delicately on white fabric, its presence amplified by the gleaming surface beneath, which captures and distorts light like a fragile mirror. Nearby, a knife plunged vertically into a liquid surface sends ripples outward—a subtle but unsettling intrusion that speaks to rupture and resilience. The sky, streaked with dusky hues transitioning from fiery orange to deep purple, breathes a somber yet vibrant energy that colors the scene with tension and possibility.

Together, these elements form an enigmatic tableau that transcends mere still life. The artwork probes transformation and instability in a world perpetually in flux, where boundaries dissolve and re-form. It is a meditation on rebirth—not as gentle emergence but as a complex process shaped by disturbance and shadow. Through its deliberate use of vivid color, reflective textures, and spatial ambiguity, the piece challenges viewers to engage with the latent power of change, the fragility of existence, and the uncanny beauty found in moments of uncertainty.
